The 43rd International Apiculture Congress was held between the dates of September 29 – October 04, 2013 in Kiev Ukraine with the participation of over 7000 beekeepers.

The conference concluded with a vote to decide the host for the 2017 Congress. Bulgaria, Sweden, Italy and Turkey gave strictly regulated two-minute presentations promoting their countries. With a campaign starting two years ago and a superb presence at this year's event, Turkey won more than half of the delegates' 236 votes and Apimondia 2017 will take place in Istanbul. The red and white flags waved long into the night.

Preparation for the candidacy to host the 45th Apimondia Congress to be held in 2017 were initiated back in 2009 with Teamcon Congress Services Worldwide which Turkish Association of Beekeepers has signed a long-term partnership agreement.

Teamcon was founded 10 years ago by five selective travel management companies in Istanbul with the purpose of bringing the biggest and most prestigious congresses and events to Turkey. Apimonia is the third international congress that bring by Teamcon in its 10th anniversary.
